Better late than never - last month I presented some research that I did during fellowship at the AAOS annual meeting in New Orleans. This was a comparison to a previously published study looking at the rates of healing for tibia lengthening using 3 different techniques. The update was looking at the internal lengthening nail (in this case the PRECICE nail) vs. older techniques (classic Ilizarov and lengthening and then nailing) which both require an external fixator.
The results demonstrate that the internal lengthening nail is reliable and yields few complications for tibia lengthening with similar healing parameters. The internal lengthening nail is generally more patient friendly and easier to tolerate. The complete study will be published soon.
